I second that motion, Nothing like throwing a great band around until you are sick to death of them. If i wanted to see REM I would have went to there stubbs show, or there ACL taping, or whatever. I can think of alot more bands that i would like to see than REM.
The more you look at it, it looks like we will be doing a REM, Allman Brothers, Sheryl/Counting Crows, type stuff... Once again, it wont be Radiohead, it wont be Rage, wont be NIN, WONT be Coldplay... Thats 100% for me
let me just put this into perspective. From what ive heard we cant expect ACL to be any better than lollapalooza. The bands that are rumored to be at lolla this year: RATM, NIN, Radiohead, and Wilco. So ACL gets nothing but repeat acts from years before? doesnt make sense at all.
Listen, and I am not going against you Pwntek, but if you want to see those bands, then you should plan to go to Lolla and not to ACL... ACL will never have a ton of top tier bands, they perfer to fill it with a lot of talent, smaller groups, things that appeal to what the fans "want to see..."
The groups most fans want to see down here ARE top tier acts: Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Prince, Tom Waits, Manu Chao...these are all names that perpetually float around, but never solidify. The idea that what Austin really wants is R.E.M. for the second time in 12 months, MMJ for the third time in 12 months, Rilo Kiley for the third time in 12 months, that's all kind of bull.
If C3 can't book the kind of acts other festivals do, they shouldn't keep raising the price of the ticket.
i agree dudezer, people are already paying 170$ for tickets. and we have seen so many repeat acts over the past couple of years. Honestly i would gladly pay 200$ if C3 could book some different bands to play ACL.
Its not an issue of what they can book, but instead what they will book... They will book big bands, but it wont be big time hard rock bands, but instead jam bands and yes the repeat bands... I am not saying this is what I want, I am saying this is what they do... If they wanted to, they could book every big band for both festivals, but instead they decide to book the pop, big rock bands for Lolla, and the jam, alternative, and maybe some big bands for ACL, going for top tier for Lolla and depth with ACL. This is just how they work, and like I said, if you dont like this then you most likely will not be happy with ACL. Unless they go through a major policy change, then Lolla and Bonaroo might be better bets for you guys... I annually attend all 5 of the major US festivals, so it doesnt matter to me, but I just want you guys to understand the idea behind this...
i just read on the pearl jam message board that they're going to be making some announcements this week. word over there sounds like PJ will be coming to ACL!!
(of course they could all be wrong, but i'm really hoping that they're right!!!!)

that also could be a lolla announc, ent. But i would be ecstatic with a MAJOR rock band like pearl jam headlining acl. Also i dont think this has been talked about as a possibility yet. But weezer has a new album due out in may, i think they could definitley fill a slot at ACL.
I'm kind of hoping AGAINST PJ headlining ACL. Not the biggest fan, but I'll be seeing them at Bonnaroo this summer anyway. Not to thrilled with the prospect of a double serving of Eddie Vedder...
Pearl Jam is a possibility, but if so then dont expect another big time band, the supporting acts would me fairly smaller in comparison, such as Allman Brothers, and Sheryl Crow, Wilco, maybe others... But if its PJ, then no REM, no other big bands
Having looked at the message boards, I'd say this rumor is baseless. The lineup never gets released this early in the year, and only a few people think the announcement is about ACL and not just about a tour or a festival overseas.
Speculation by message board fans does not equal rumor. It equals speculation.
Dudezer.... who was the clown last year on the 2007 rumors site that kept claiming to have the legit list, that no one could really prove wrong, and he/she kept SWEARING that it was the real deal.... only to have like 10% of it be accurate? I just went back and skimmed through the archive but cant find them. I agree with you though dude, this will be our 6th year at the festival, and I really just read these posts to be entertained by the brainstorming... and maybe run into a fellow fan of the same bands I like.
Found it.... it was a registered user (ACLFAN). Please disregard any posts this person may claim to have for 2008. This was his "official, inside information list" from last year:
from ACLFAN: Friday: Bjork, The Killers
Saturday: Bob Dylan, Yusuf Islam, Arcade Fire, The White Stripes
Sunday: Stevie Wonder/Neil Young, Eddie Vedder, Wilco
I have the "/" in between Stevie and Neil because that's how they have it in the headlining slot on Sunday night. They won't be sharing the stage of course, so I don't know if that means they're only getting one or the other or they haven't decided which one will headlining or what. Pearl Jam was on that same spot too originally, but it's scatched through.
lol i remember reading that post from last year. Actually this person got all the headliners they just mixed up the days and stuff. They also elaborated alot. i mean why would a company like c3 not use a computer to write out the list. and if they did hand write it. how would this guy get it? funny.
But if i remember right somebody did get the lineup. But it was hours before the release.
