Let's start this up. These aren't so much rumors as desires and dreams:

Robert Plant & Allison Krauss...I think Led Zeppelin is a bit of a stretch
Beastie Boys
The Eagles
Rodrigo y Gabriella (gotta make up for last year)
Neil Young
Lou Reed
Metallica (ACL has never done metal and they might do Bonnaroo)
Amy Winehouse...if she's not dead
Van Halen...what the hell?

It's not too early, and I'm betting Radiohead will happen this year. They've announced their tour and city outline, and they're playing in Dallas and Houston. Now we just need to wait and see if the dates are in September!

I feel you with the Radiohead headliner theory. They announced the cities for their 2008 N. American Tour today... http://www.ateaseweb.com/2008/01/09/radiohead-reveal-ci...north-american-tour/

They list Dallas and Houston, but no ACL yet. It's still very likely though.

I think Pearl Jam might be a possibility since they havent played live in TX since the 2003 tour. At the very least, seeing Ed Vedder there touring the Into The Wild soundtrack would be decent as well.

I also bet $50 that Wilco will be there, being that the festival should be renamed "Wiclo City Limits" since they play annually

KGSR played one of Eddie Vedder's tunes off of the Into the Wild soundtrack the other day. Afterwards the DJ said Pearl Jam was rumored to be appearing at ACL Festival. Probably a recording they made that they've used this time of year for the last 3 years.

There's a pretty big resurgance of 90's grunge bands upon us, with some tours already planned for this summer: a Shannon Hoon-less Blind Melon, Meat Puppets, Sonic Youth, Lemonheads, etc.. I think Blind Melon is a solid pick being that the new singer is a native Texan.

In regards to that Pearl Jam/Vedder theory, doesnt Mr. Attal have something to do with the promoting of line-ups for Lollapalooza too? If so, it would seem fitting that he could bring them to Austin after the headlined Lolla last summer. Pearl Jam has spent the past 2 summers touring the big festivals in Europe, and they are usually done by the end of August.. if they did the Europe gigs again this year they would still most likely be back in the USA on time to play here. No doubt they would go on an anti-Bush Administration tangent when given a stage in the middle of downtown Austin a few months prior to him officially leaving office.

Attal's company c3 presents does both ACL and lolla, I'd say that this may be the vedder year. Although looking at the dates I think it's more logical that it may be the year of radiohead. Bonnaroo should be announcing a lineup very soon. and ACL usually gets some of the bands at roo so keep your eyes open for that too.

wow! so i was curious as to the "rumors" on some of the bonaroo message boards. And they are all freaking out about possibly having metalica playing there. I think if metalica plays roo' people are gonna riot or something its rediculous!lol

Metallica at Roo would be funny for 1 specific reason: to see the look of horror on Lars face as they play a set to 500,000 hippies with tiny, state of the art audio recorders and cameras, eager to post the recording for free on the internet the minute they leave the stage.

ahahaha! that would be friggin hilarious! All i know is this years ACL is gonna best amazing. It has to be. Last year was disappointing to an extent for me. That whole white stripes thing was brutal. Hopefully they make up for it this year.

metallica sucks.

ACL really needs to get some jam bands this year. That is a genre they have been really neglecting.
I would love to see Phil Lesh or Ratdog, but some dead might be a little too much to ask.
How about bringing back Widspread Panic? Or Trey Anstasio (assuming he is allowed to tour)?
Yonder Mountain String Band? they would be a great fit, I think.
