LAST EXIT - Read the book "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn, then listen to the entire album YIELD. It takes on a new meaning, and it flows almost like a soundtrack to the book... enjoy

Pearl Jam's "Yield" Album Based On Ishmael by Daniel Quinn

Pearl Jam, the multi-platinum Grammy-winning Seattle band, can be listed among the most famous of those inspired by Daniel Quinn's novel, Ishmael. Countless readers have found their way to Ishmael through Eddie Vedder and the gang via their 1998 release, "Yield". Not only did Pearl Jam base many of "Yield"'s concepts on Ishmael, but they also held a contest for their fan club in which members were asked to create a work of art displaying what Ishmael meant to them. The band said in their fan club letter, "This book was passed around during the last recording session, and we pass it on to you... You could almost go as far as saying that the liner notes to the record are in there."

The song Do The Evolution is the most obviously influenced by Ishmael, but subtle references and allusions can be found throughout the record. According to Vedder, the title refers to the necessity for humans to yield to nature.

Listen to clips of "Yield" at the band's Sony Website, which includes a link to the video for Do The Evolution. The video was a collaboration between the band and Spawn animator Todd McFarlane, and is heavily influenced by Ishmael. Read Daniel Quinn's comments on the Pearl Jam album and get a Pearl Jam fan's comments on the connection between the band and Daniel Quinn.

I don't have a problem with NERD being there, I love NERD, but I was just saying that they're playing at the Frank Erwin Center after playing multiple shows at SXSW, and possibly ACL. Attal bringing back bands after they've recently played in this market just seems to be a lazy move. It's like if you eat a burger for lunch and dinner for a few straight days, you liked that burger the first few times, but after awhile it's like, "damn, this sucks, I want something different".....plus it's not healthy

Well I think NERD is great too. and they will be at ACL, they are one of the most recognizable parts of the mash-up. And I do see your point. I didn't get a chance to see them yet so...yeah. But I feel that way about Wilco and MMJ. They are both great acts, but I want to see somebody new. Love em' both but a change would be great. And i think we will get that this year.

Here, here MarkB.. Jack Johnson is a snooze fest..

ACL needs to give some REAL DEALs this time.. last year was the weakest of any year.

Made me want to actually wait for the tix.. never have I waited.. I just bought them, but... with how weak it was last year, made me reconsider.. but I broke down 2 days ago..

I saw a clip of sting forgetting the lyrics to S.O.S. wow.

as much as I love some of these bands and its great to say something like hey i've seen The Police, the rolling stones, ect. Some bands just don't know when to so enough is enough. I respect led zeps decision to not tour again. Even though id like to see them more than anything, This leaves ppl to remember them from their prime.

Over the last couple months my friend and I have read all the boards, blogs, rumor lists, and articles on ACL. We've also extensively checked official band sites and tour schedules. We're not insiders, but we do this every year and are usually pretty close. We enjoy this hunt, and now that it is over in a matter of hours we thought it would be fun to put this out there and see what comments you may have. Here's How it's going to go down (in our minds).

Jake

Friday
