Who are your three picks for the headliners of this year's ACLMF? I know there are a couple of other threads over speculation and the sort, but who do you think will be the huge three acts ACL will bring in this year?

Last year was, of course, the Black Crowes, Widespread Panic, and Coldplay.

Who will fill these slots this year?

My completely unfounded picks will be:

Bob Dylan
Dave Matthews Band
Radiohead

A couple other ideas would feature Trey Anastasio or Ben Harper, but I think those three make sense for headliners. Your thoughts?

RE: DMB. Not sure what to make of it, but this is the first year I've seen San Antonio/Selma off their tour. This move would definitely make sense if they're headlining ACL.

I am hoping for a little Dave Matthews Band/Dave and Friends action.

Yeah, I think Trey Anastasio is part of the DM and Friends group, so that could work out really well.

I think if the DMB plays the festival they will give him a double set a la Widespread Panic last year because a lot of his live shows go 3+ hours.

Anyways, thus far the list of rumored headliners includes...

Dave Matthews Band
Radiohead
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bob Dylan
Coldplay
Trey Anastasio
Tom Petty
Ben Harper

Would Beck be counted as a headliner? I doubt it...

wait.
are you calling the bands you have listed here "rumors"?

Just because some people on here say they would like to see a band doesnt make that band a rumor...

just saying...

Haha, fair point, to clarify a bit, Wiki lists Radiohead, RHCP, and Bob Dylan, DMB has a big hole in their schedule right around the festival, Trey Anastasio is touring and played the festival two years ago in the same slot, Tom Petty is playing Bonnaroo and fits the style, Ben Harper is back on tour and also played the festival two years ago, and apparently people said that a picture said Coldplay are returning to the festival. So, there's the reasoning.

I'll agree with Radiohead, RHCP and Dylan, but none of the others have been speculated about anywhere but here.

There are tons of bands that have played the fest before/fit the style/have holes in the schedule/ect...

I like your thinking for sure...

Yeah, what I should have said, since this is just the speculation forum, is that these are bands that people have speculated that might be playing, that would fit into a headlining slot.

Does anyone know how those names came about on Wiki? I saw them there, yet haven't seen them anywhere else...

So the John Mayer ACL confirmation seems to lend a big swing towards Tom Petty playing a headlining set, likely Friday night. So a Friday with Tom Petty, a Saturday with DMB, and Sunday with RHCP or Radiohead. Makes sense to me.

So does Tom Petty playing Sunday mean Radiohead is out? I hope not!

I don't think it rules them out, but I think Red Hot Chili Peppers are more likely right now, Radiohead and Tom Petty are playing Bonnaroo, I think they want more diversity than just having the same combination of big name acts.

I think it looks like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, and then Tom Petty.

Is there any evidence at all supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers, aside from them playing Lollapalooza and people's wishful thinking?

DMB and Tom Petty might be the biggest name, arena level headliners on the rock side.

Backyard/Austin Music Hall/Stubb's level acts have headlined most a lot of nights at ACL, even last year. I think a bunch of them are going on the schedule this year (as past years), even some of the acts currently booked for solo shows this summer are likely to play ACL also.

I would be happy if either Radiohead or RHCP showed up. I just am not convinced there is somebody else with that level of draw in the cards. Having DMB and Petty confirmed narrows the field a little bit now.

However, I would not be surprised to see the Dixie Chicks or another big country name be an arena level headliner being added to the bill.

Or perhaps, other Festival friendly legends like Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen and Seeger Sessions, Bob Dylan could add some gravitas to the whole thing.

Everyone seems to be saying Chili Peppers, I don't know exactly why but it sort of makes sense.

I think it's because last year ACL booked Coldplay as the more mainstream rock(ish) music group, then the Black Crowes and Widespread Panic as more pure musical acts, the same sort of roles Tom Petty and DMB fill this year, with ACL ideally trying to book someone that gets a different market, they will get big country names like Lyle Lovett to play a big, late night spot, but their headliners have been more mainstream than the country names. Bob Dylan or Springsteen could play, but I highly doubt they'd book either of them along with Tom Petty, especially Dylan.

Well Dylan and Petty did have a tour together a couple years back right??

And as far as the Dixie Chicks as previously mentioned, they are from Texas and have a new song/ video out that kind of strays from their normal stuff

So it says DMB is confirmed, where did they find that at?
