my two cents....

based on the past ACL's, this event will sell out no matter who is playing... period. People don't pay $150 to see only the headliners (ok, maybe some but there are 65K people that don't care that will purchase tickets).

The extra week to me implies that the 2005 promotor of the year needed time to do something big - not scam another 5000 pre-lineup tickets.

My hope and belief is that ACL is seperating itself from Bonaroo (sp). Not merely booking huge, rock solid acts that are on tour - but working with artists to create a UNIQUE ACL experience that can't be found at any other festival.

My guess is that the Sunday headliner this year will be something that is a one time shot - something that people will be talking about for awhile. Not a headliner from another festival and not a touring act you can catch at your local Mega Arena.

What if I'm wrong? I'll get $100 worth of music out of the Gospel Tent alone. Heck, I get 100 bucks worth just by watching all the Austinites in festival mode.

We will all look at the lineup next week and think, "How in the world did ACL pull off something so big?" - that is a fact.

Long Live ACL!

Well I suppose my prayer would be Eric Clapton. That would be the ultimate headliner, especially with Derek Trucks in his touring band.

The odds of him coming are, of course, really small, but that would be a great one-off headliner and would fit in perfectly.

Anyways, I suppose you might be right about the headliner, although last year Coldplay, WP and the Crowes all headlined other festivals, so it wasn't those particular headliners, but the overall mix that made it so good. I agree that it'll be a special fest, but I think it'll probably be for depth over a special headliner.

we'll have both - unless i've been mislead. The REM rumor has me very worried!

I don't think you have anything to be worried about.

1. I can't see them playing when they are not on tour.
2. Those who dislike R.E.M. are free to see somebody else or just just go home early if R.E.M. plays a solo on Sunday. Nothing to be very worried about.

I hope it is not Clapton. I saw him a few years ago and at his point the man is beat. Stick a form in him and send him off to pasture.
