do you think the strokes would play ACL? Or do you think their music is too "heavy" for ACL. I for one would love to see them there, they put on a good show.
I think they might play. I would give them better odds than most other non-local acts.
First, the music is not that heavy, they have a sound not too different than a lot of bands that have played the past few years. I think of a lot heavier ACL acts than The Strokes. I think they would be a good fit.
Second, they headlined Stubbs right before SXSW. That usually makes an act a candidate (the ACL organizers also book Stubbs). Hence, the issue of playing ACL could have been brought up months ago.
Third, they are Festival friendly, the have played a few over the past year.
Fourth, they are supposed to open a few shows for Tom Petty at some point. We don't know when and we don't know who will be with the Petty tour in mid September. Could be John Mayer (who is confirmed via Pollstar). Other people on the opener list were Trey Anastasio (doing the Dallas and Houston shows a month or so before ACL), Allman Brothers Band, and Pearl Jam. So far, we know it won't be Pearl Jam.
Add it up, lots of reason to consider them suspects.
that sounds like some great news to me. As I said, I would love to see them there. I would also love to see the Eagles of Death Metal there, I saw them open for the Strokes back in March. They put on a tremendous show as well.
