Within the last year I heard from a friend that the ACL organizers limit each band to three consecutive performances. So, with that logic, and of the acts who have played the last three years would not be able to come back in 2006. Does anyone know of the validity of this? Am I operating under unfounded logic?
Asleep at the Wheel plays every ACL. Either Asleep at the Wheel are the special exception to the rule or the rule you speak of is just a rumor. There is reason to believe that Asleep at the Wheel could have unique status, due Ray Benson's role in the founding of the festival.
I have not seen an interview or anything official that states there is such a consequtive years limitation on local acts. I have seen it written a few times on blogs and Forums, usually with hearsay evidence. So, I don't know.
Personally, if the policy does exist, I think it is a sound policy, as long as it is a rule of thumb and not a strict law. I would think there would be room to break the policy when bands justify repeat peformances (they continue to be a big draw, both locally and with out of town visitors (ex: Spoon). It is also healthy to rotate the schedule, try new things, etc...
I agree with you on that Nathan. I would hate for it to limit acts that are in-demand. Speaking of which, have you heard anything about Spoon playing again this year? I made the choice to see Thievery Corp. last year and although they were fantastic I wish I could have seen Spoon as well.
