I know we just got the line up today but NOW when does the grid come down. I know I know hold your horses.
When I first looked at the line up this morning I was a bit let down but the more I look I think it will be a decent year. Not ACL's best but a good year. Chancho |

I'm just wondering who is going to be added...there are 16 slots open because the site says 130 bands and there are only 114 confirmed. So who are the other 16 and when will they be added????

Actually, Austin360's story about the lineup release reports a 141 act festival and by my count (and I could have counted wrong) there are 116 on the lineup list currently on the ACL website. That means 25 acts to fill. However, I also noticed that the Austin Kiddie Limits performers are not on the posted lineup yet, nor are some of the standard choirs and choruses from the Austin area.

C3 had Pearl Jam confirmed and then they canceled two weeks ago hen Vedder found out his wife was pregnant. they canceled all the September shows.
Bummer, but next year for sure I hear. Foo Fighters were to play Saturday and PJ on Sunday, but now FF move to Sunday and they added Plant / Kraus. |

i personally am TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED w/ the line up this year. the only truly positive things about the line up is that jack johnson isn't on it and that some really good local austin bands are getting well deserved extra attention (white denim, black joe lewis, the strange boys).
that being said, it seems like C3 just went the lazy route and got craploads of local acts that play austin several times a year, and happen to be on tour in september, instead of going the extra effort to get acts that rarely, if ever, have played here. last year we get bjork and this year it's the foo fighters and the raconteurs (again?!) WTF!? i'm vaguely excited about seeing vampire weekend (who have played here twice in the past six months), manu chao, and gogol bordello (played here less than two months ago) and that's about it. and what's the deal w/ the repeats of major players from two years ago, like the raconteurs and gnarls barkley, and possibly iron and wine (i avoid that band like the plague, vaguely remember them on the line up for 2006?)? they all suck bigtime! if you can't give us badass repeats like spoon and ghostland observatory (also austin bands) or M.I.A. (playing here in may, missed her last year due to LCD soundsystem being more awesome), or even the decemberists (though their new album blows) then don't give us any repeats at all! and back to the raconteurs... they were here two acl's ago, and are fixing to play two shows at stubb's, then come back in september. why must we be subjected to this? and the mars volta just played here a week ago or so, same goes for octopus project at sxsw (granted, they're local, but whatever). why can't they take this opportunity to get us acts that rarely make it here. like say, oh... uh, anyone on any of the other major festival line ups who is not playing acl w/ the exception of jack johnson or possibly metallica! i suppose on the bright side i'll have plenty of chances for napping or swimming at barton springs. and on the bad side, i just paid 150 bucks to see 3 bands in the searing heat that i don't want to see THAT badly. i'd be impressed with beck being on the line up if he just released odelay this year. (oh yeah, i saw him on the odelay tour 10 yrs ago when he was awesome, once again, another repeat.) any austinite who is active in the live music scene here and has gone to lots of shows will be disappointed in the fact that they've probably seen several of the acts listed on the line up at least twice already (recent repeats include, but are not limited to... the mars volta, louis xiv, black joe lewis, jenny lewis, mgmt, what made milwaukee famous, heartless bastards, octopus project, galactic, vampire weekend, man man, yeasayer, mates of state, nicole atkins, asleep at the wheel, del and the funky homosapiens, tegan and sarah, against me, colour revolt, okkervil river). |

It appears that Blues Traveler has been added, they are now on ACL's artist discovery page and to the lineup page.

yeah i just saw the Blues Traveler listing. it wasn't there last time i looked. neither was Xavier Rudd. I'm more pleased with this lineup than last year's. BT, Xavier Rudd, Yonder Mountain String Band, Robert Plant/Allison Krauss, Foo Fighters, Beck -- wow. Raconteurs, hmm, i'll bet Jack is making up for the White Stripes absence last year. It'll be fun to see G. Love, David Byrne, Galactic. Freddy Jones Band -- i can't believe those guys are still playing after more than a decade. if you don't remember them, play the daydream song on their bio page off the acl site. you'll remember the song. should be a great weekend as long as the heat holds off a bit better than last year.

I tell you all this based on 5 years of ACL experience... the music entertainment accounts for 50% of the festival; the other 50% of the entertainment is being there with everyone for the weekend, and the bands you want to see the least, end up blowing you away.
Beck doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming favorite according to these posts, and I am not a huge fan of his. HOWEVER, if you guys want to be blown away by a "show," then I sincerely suggest everyone see his set. For those that saw The Flaming Lips a few years ago, Beck's "show" is 10X better. I saw him 18 months ago in Houston and Dallas, and for those of you that saw the same tour, I have two words: “Marionette Puppets.” I'm excited about this years lineup simply because it isn’t like the other festivals. To LouLou that wrote the 14,000 word essay - If you want to see Jack Johnson, go to one of the other 18 festivals he's playing this year. Actually, just go to Bonnaroo - he's going to be playing with Pearl Jam's set, and Ed Vedder is going to playing with him during the JJ set. |

ArtfulDodger:
Well said. I couldn't agree more. I've never seen Beck, but I've heard of the shows you're talking about. My friend had a flash-back when I read him your post about the "Marionette Puppets." I'll be at 'Roo and I'll see Pearl Jam with Jack Johnson. I got the email from The 'Roo last week. How fucking cool is that going to be? See ya'll in September. As long as Bjork isn't playing again, it will be a great weekend. One Love, Red Mosquito |

Dude...the Marionette puppets in the last tour were uber lame and were largely responsible for alienating the crowd in Bonnaroo.
His last tour was schtick, plain and simple. His performance and demeanor on stage was listless and uninteresting to me. It probably worked a lot better in a club setting, but at Bonnaroo, in a festival setting, on the biggest stage, the whole set was a big dud. So here's hoping Beck doesn't bring his club show to the big stage. |
