I was chatting with a guy in Bob Schneider's crew, and he siad he thought there was a limitation on local bands playing ACL. Something like, once a band plays, they are out for a year or two to give others a chance.

It would be nice is acts like Eric Johnson, Ian Moore, Bob Schneider, and some sort of Arc Angels/Storyville/Double Trouble reunion might be in the works for ACL.
Just interested if any knows of any local bands (besides Los Lonely Boys) might be at the festival (???)

Asleep at the Wheel is from Austin and have been there every year. I don't think Los Lonely Boys are local, they are from San Angelo.

ACL Festival 2003 had a Home Grown Austin Blues artist named Gary Clark Jr. I would like to see him and his band play this year!
He has a free showcase every Wednesdays from 7-9pm, at The Continental Club on South Congress. He's played with Buddy Guy, BB Kind, Double Trouble, Chuck Berry, ect... He is young too, I htink just turned 21. He plays the blues, the way the Blues is supposed to sound.

Asleep at the Wheel and Ray Benson go back to the orgins of the fest. When they announced ACL 1, Ray Benson was at the press conference. The link below alludes to his role (6th paragraph).

All festivals end up putting limits on just about everything (rock bands, country bands, local, major headliners); with only 130 slots or so slots, you have to balance things. I would be surprised if the rule is set in stone, I am sure there is a lot of policy. I agree that it is a good idea to mix the bands up from year to year.

Local Bands that I would not be surprised to be on board this year:
Voxtrot
Octopus Project
Riverboat Gamblers (they moved here)
and by the respnose Spoon got last at ACL and at SXSW this year, I would not be surprised to see them return.

I would love to see the Asylum Street Spankers back again. Also, Bruce Robison is from Austin and he has been at ACL every year.

I actually talked to Bruce at a show in Ft. worth, the 12th and he assured me that he would not be at ACL this year. He sounded upset by it and didn't seem to want to elaborate, so I didn't ask why.
