Strong rumors out that DMB will be the major headliners in addition to Cold Play (again) this year. Can anyone add any details for DMB possibility? They currently don't have TX on their tour schedule, and have the ACL weekend free at the moment. Looking good....

DMB is discussed in a lot of threads. Same as you what you think, schedule hole and a lot of chatter. I have seen nothing official.
I highly doubt the Coldplay rumor, apparantly there was a web page briefly posted on ACL that said they were coming back. But, I never saw it. Assuming it existed (which it probably did), there are plenty of reasons the page could have existed (it could have been a test, an error, something innocent like that).
For what I heard, Coldplay is supposed to be off the road by then. Who knows.
<Liz> Posted 27 April 2006 10:03 AM DMB is actually playing in Houston on 8/18 and Dallas on 8/19, so they do have TX dates on their tour.
Yes, most of us are aware of that.
The difference this year is that there is not the usual date at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater near San Antonio.
Why skip San Antonio this year?
Many of us feel the reason is that they are playing ACL.
Add the fact that ACL weekend has been an empty spot in schedule for some time. And that Austin is in between Colorado (the shows before ACL) and Virginia (the shows after ACL).
Plus, the usual speculation, rumors dating back to past years.
Yeah, coupling that with the fact that there aren't any other major headliners being discussed now, the musical style works well, and the fact they are touring with Robert Randolph and the Family Band, who themselves are likely to come back after their storming ACL sets in the past have been big career boosts.
I'll agree that this probably knocks them out of playing.
I'm a little down by it, but when you mentioned it could be ACL related I thought that it's possible that it was ACL related in that they were going to schedule more dates around an appearance at ACL, and just found out what date they were playing. You know, like getting a Chicago date in, or dates prior to the Chicago gig, then stopping by Austin City Limits on the way to Virginia, on the next dat (Sat the 16th)

Except the only problem is that Chicago is much closer towards VA than is Austin, which they would be back-tracking (just seems unlikely).
