there is more than the so called "leak" - someone got some info, some good and some bad. Headliners (main that is) is a closely guarded secret. It isn't Van the Man, it isn't Petty and it isn't Willie.
The point of this festival (like the others) is to make money. The BUSINESS wants us to have some Austin pride but they are in it for the dollar - nothing wrong with that. Comparisons with other festivals will occur and it isn't a leap of faith to know they are all going for the same thing - big bands that can bring big ticket prices this year and presales next year.
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys above as the sun goes down on Friday and Saturday.
As for Sunday - there will be no second fiddle to the other festials. More people will stay for Sunday night this year than last year for Coldplay (about 65-70%). This year we will reach an 80% retention rate for Sunday Night Main Stage. That's a fact.
You are living in denial. I can guaranty that the three names you mentioned above are the headliners. ACL will announces some smaller bands but if don’t like the headliners you see now you may what to sell your tickets. Have a great day.
The idea that the leak was all a conspiracy in order to mask the revelation of a really big name sounds nice. I am all for having more headliner stature bands.
I just don't think that is the case.
The writer for the Dallas Observer is not anonymous in any way shape or fashion. He probably has access to schedule info due to his media credentials. Why doubt a word he said?
You, are totally anonymous and therefore probably lying.
The youngins' have no patience. Frankly I could care less about the other festivals and their line-ups because I am not going to them. ACL is my fest. This will be my 4th yr runnin' and all is looking good so far for me, I just hope the weather ain't the killin' kind. In my opinion, though I love the diversity, they leaned just little much towards younger crowds last year. I would go with some stalwarts like John Hiatt, jj cale, Bonnie Raitt and such,, because frankly, we older folks gots more money.
I may be a bit crazy but it does make a bit of sense.
When they contacted Charles Attal (thanks Malone for the article) he said he had no idea how someone would've gotten the info, which was "supposed to be under embargo until thursday" he refused to comment on the accuracy of the lineup, blah blah.
Anyways, it does make sense that they wouldn't send out the biggest headliners, because it's obvious when it gets to the newspaper it's going to be let out. It's a big wild, it's been a long day for me, but it makes sense they would hide the biggest acts until their announcement Thursday, keeping it from everyone's eyes until the official announcement.
