An incredibly reliable source has told me that Tom Petty is not the big name headliner. It's true that he's playing on Sunday, but that doesn't mean he's playing in the headlining slot.
So what are our options?
The same source was dropping some insanely heavy hints about an appearance by a mister Robert Zimmerman.
I doubt Willie Nelson for the Sunday night headlining slot. The last three years the festival has used headliners from the more rock-oriented world, and usually bands who are bigger now, as opposed to being more famous earlier in their careers.
I don't know who it will be, I'd be kind of glad it wasn't Tom Petty (more variety over other fests that way) but we'll have to wait for tomorrow to find out.
I hope Bob Dylan does not play! I have seen him several times and it really is not that great. No disrespect I love Bob Dylan but man he lost it along time ago.
Ditto on Isaac's announcement comment, until somebody reliable says it has been delayed, I expect to see the schedule on the web late night/early tomorrow morning, in tomorrow's Austin Chronicle.
If it is coming out within 24 hours, there ought to be some leaks, perhaps all of it.
Anyways, I can only hope that this announcement means that ACL is trying to get bands that just recently announced (even privately) that they were going on tour. Some big acts will be in the states during this time period, with Modest Mouse just going on tour then, Muse talking about going stateside, Eric Clapton and Dereck Trucks touring, likely in the Americas, there are big arena acts who will tour fall through winter which makes them available to ACL.
There is still the possibility this is due to struggling, but I doubt it. ACL has a pattern of growing in stature each year, and hopefully this year is nailing down someone huge, in my dream world Clapton, but it could be any (number) act(s)
I looked for a link on the Statesman site but did not find one. The notice is just inside the front page where they will put little celebrity gossip type tidbits, if you know where I mean. Later tonight if I get the chance I’ll type it out since it is short, but the main idea is that they needed more time to finalize the schedule grid. I thought that was strange since the lineup is typically announced before the grid is released, but that is what is said. So we have to wait an extra week before all these guesses become irrelevant.
is it possible that the chronicle's source was wikipedia? or perhaps something else? or maybe acl just wants to catch people off guard and release it tomorrow.
