I doubt it, but I'm a sceptic. IF they were there, I'd be giggling like a schoolgirl with fantastic rapturous excitement!!

This is off of Wiki, plus they are listed on possible acts for ACL. (more info on maybe with them)
On February 2 </wiki/February_2>, 2006 </wiki/2006>, MTV.com <http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1523078/20060202/smashing_pumpkins.jhtml?headlines=true> reported that Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin had signed a new management deal with the Front Line Management. Touring bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur was also quoted as saying that the pair were currently working on an album of new material. The only original members confirmed as of yet are Corgan and Chamberlin, but Auf Der Maur was quoted as saying, "my services are always there to play my favorite songs. If D'arcy is not available, I'm always happy to be second in line."[4] <http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001956802> It is doubtful that Iha and Wretzky would join a reunited Smashing Pumpkins, due to the fact that relations have been more than strained between the two and Corgan since the breakup of the group. Official Announcement On April 20th </wiki/April_20>, 2006 </wiki/2006>, Billy Corgan officially announced on www.smashingpumpkins.com <http://www.smashingpumpkins.com> that the band was back together writing material for their first album since 2000 </wiki/2000_in_music>. The band plans to record the album over the summer of 2006 </wiki/2006_in_music>, with a possible late 2006 or early 2007 </w/index.php?title=2007_in_music&action=edit> release date. The band's line-up is currently unknown aside from Corgan and Chamberlin; however, Corgan has recently commented on this, stating in the Chicago Tribune that "the band has a soul. I don't care who's in it." |

I don't think it'd be the same without Iha, but I'd definitely check them out if they were there. Thanks for the info.

The list of possible ACL bands on the Wiki page is all speculation, nothing to back most of it up (currently reads Sufjan Stevens, Fiona Apple, Calexico, Wilco, Spoon, Rilo Kiley, The Valiant Taste Death But Once, U2, Brad Paisley, Queen, Smashing Pumpkins, Cameron Dodd, and Beck). Of those bands, Calexico is very likely to play, based on hearsay I read on this Board (or was it the blog?). Anyway, it sounded legit (why make up rumors about Calexico?). U2 is about as unlikely as you can get.
Also, it looks like the Wiki page was modified recently, a lot of rumored bands that organizers have said are not playing have been taken off removed (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead). Your comments and documentation regarding the restarting of Smashing Pumpkins is accurate. It is possible they are playing, since they do exist as a band. But, I would not expect to see them on the Festival circuit until next year. But, you never know. Logically, Lollapalooza would have been a more natural place for the Smashing Pumpkins to resurface, for a lot of reasons. |

I think if I saw the Smashing Pumpkins on the bill on May 11 my head would explode I would be so excited. Stop getting my hopes up.
